Powell River On-demand and fixed-route transit service review 

Leading Mobility supported the City of Powell River and WSP in undertaking a comprehensive review of the Zunga Bus on-demand transit program and the existing BC Transit fixed-route transit services operating within the municipality.  The Zunga Bus on-demand program is the first on-demand service operating within British Columbia and commenced as a pilot project between the City of Powell River and Innovative Solutions Canada. The service delivery review entailed the following:

• Overview of existing conditions in the City of Powell River, related to demographics, transportation networks, land use plans and developments, 

• Summary of the existing public transit services in the municipality

• Ridership analysis of all existing public transit services: fixed-route, Zunga Bus on-demand transit and HandyDART, 

• Analysis of Zunga Bus on-demand transit expansion options, and 

• Recommendations for the City, in alignment with the 2020 Transit Vision, Goals and Key Actions.   

The service delivery review was presented to the City of Powell River Council in March 2022. The assessment assisted in securing Provincial funding to maintain the Zunga on-demand transit program.
